EREF Grants 2

We provide funds for programs, projects and equipment for the East Rockaway Schools. Smartboards, robotics and science lab equipment, innovative seating and furniture, author visits, virtual field trips, makerspace materials, and scholarships have been funded by our grant program.

GRANT APPLICATION

CNC Router for ERHS

Dr. Kraus received an EREF grant to purchase a CNC router for the East Rockaway High School Technology Department. This computer-controlled tool allows students to digitally design and precisely cut materials like wood, plastic, metal, and foam. The addition marks a major leap forward from decades of traditional tech projects. We’re grateful to Dr. Kraus, with the support of Mr. Schaffer, for continuing to lead the way in innovation and excellence!

Cafe 217 continues!

One inspiring project supported in part by the East Rockaway Education Foundation is Café 217, a student-run café operated by the Life Skills class. Through this hands-on experience, students build valuable job skills such as taking and delivering orders, and serving snacks and beverages with professionalism and pride. This year, the Café 217 team took their talents on the road—bringing their café experience to our elementary schools and even the local senior center. Their hard work and enthusiasm continue to impress and inspire, and we can’t wait to see what creative ideas they brew up next year! Programs like Café 217 are made possible thanks to your support. Every fundraiser and every donation helps bring these opportunities to life—thank you!

Math Manipulatives for Kindergarten

More than 5 years ago, Mrs. Grace’s kindergarten received math manipulatives and games through a grant from the East Rockaway Education Foundation! They are still be used today to help our kindergartener become true Mathletes! One of the great things about these grants is that teachers can use some items for many years!

Visiting Artist

Last year, we were able to fulfill the art department’s request to have a visiting artist, Cara Lynch, present to our students about their art, their process, and about the different kinds of installations they’ve done all over the U.S. Cara Lynch received her MFA from Columbia University in 2020, and her BFA from Adelphi University in 2018. Lynch creates large-scale murals and public artworks that incorporate color and pattern in joyful compositions.

Books in Spanish at Centre Ave

One of our 2024 grants supported the Centre Avenue Library in expanding its collection of Spanish-language books for readers of all ages. We were thrilled to help meet this need! Whether it’s Dog Man or Hombre Perro, there’s nothing better than seeing kids excited about reading—in any language!
